When I first heard that Nickelback were releasing a new album on Saturday, I had some reservations about it as their previous release The Long Road didn’t have that fierce grunt to most tracks of its tracks.
I’m very pleased to say that I love Nickelback’s new album which is called Dark Horse. It’s full of grunt, very non-political correctness and lots of guitars and drums. But there are some softer tracks on the album like the first single Gotta Be Somebody which I personally love. It’s a great first single that won me over.
Some of the lyrics on Dark Horse are straight up and have not an ounce of political correctness in them. The first track called Something In Your Mouth starts the album with a straight-up, in-your-face lyrics about a dancer. Shakin’ Hands is an adult fairy-tale about a woman who dreams of being a “gold-digger” who doesn’t just “shake hands”. There are some lyrics that may offend some people for their male chauvinistic language so this album won’t be to everyone’s likings.
On the flipside, the track If Today Was Your Last Day has some really deep and meaning lyrics. I wouldn’t be surprised if they released it as a single.
I give Dark Horse four and a half frangipanis.
