Working On A Dream
Bruce Springsteen
After studying poetry back in 2001, my appreciation for The Boss flared. I love how he tells these brilliant stories based on fictional or possibly non-fictional characters that everybody can relate to or sympathise with.
Working On A Dream opens with an eight minute epic called Outlaw Pete. A rocky-country-and-western cowboy-stand-off track that packs attitude. Then the next track is the summery and sweet My Lucky Day.
The album has a vast mixture of genres; from rock to country, from pop to folk. Watching the bonus DVD you see that Bruce is very particular with how a song should sound, down to each stanza.
Good Eye is a really cool bluesy/country/rock track. I just love the sound and there’s a banjo in it!
The Last Carnival is a touchy dedication to his former keyboardist Danny Federici who lost his battle with melanoma last year.
Working On A Dream ends with The Wrestler which features is the highly acclaimed movie of the same title. As usual Bruce gets into character who wants to tell his story about the struggles in life.
At Sanity you can buy the limited edition of Working On A Dream with a bonus forty minute DVD which shows one very cool looking Boss.
I give Working On A Dream three out of five frangipanis.
Here is the track listing of Working On A Dream:
1. Outlaw Pete
