Defying Gravity
Keith Urban
I have listened to Defying Gravity twice and enjoyed this album both times. Most tracks on Defying Gravity are autobiographical and full of honesty and positivity. It’s like Keith is acknowledging that he had some hard times, but with finding his love, (his wife), he can deal with everything better.
Kiss A Girl is the album starter. It’s a soft-rock catchy tune. Actually a lot of the songs off Defying Gravity have really catchy lyrics that will get stuck in your head. Keith and his band introduce a big-band sound to If I Could Ever Love. This produces a strong beat that you wouldn’t expect to hear from Keith.
The banjo heavily features in most tracks on Defying Gravity, but Keith makers the instrument sound funky. In his first single Sweet Thing the banjo is what makes the song.
I love 'Til Summer Comes Around. This is a tale of a summer affair who finds himself stuck in a town waiting for his love to come back. Keith captures the atmosphere of a small town romance and the feelings of a lost love so well, that I thought of the boss Bruce Springsteen’s uncanny ability to write songs about characters like Keith in 'Til Summer Comes Around.
For those who like a bit of boot-scooting you’ll definitely enjoy Hit The Ground Runnin'. I kept wanting to yell out a big Yeeeaaaahh!
He definitely wants to be the best husband/father he can be and the album Defying Gravity definitely defines this. The beautiful last track Thank You sums this up too.
Defying Gravity get four frangipanis out of five.
