Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools
Diesel
2009
As much as I love Diesel, I had listened to previews of some tracks off Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools and wasn’t too sure about them. However on Saturday when I listened to the whole album (cranked up of course), I loved it!
Saturday Suffering Fools kicks off with a very relevant track called The First Time I Met The Blues. It has a classic sound and you’re transported to a dark smoky club. Then you’re thrusted into a 50’s rock ‘n roll dance track called My Baby Likes To Boogaloo. This is one cool track!
At his Four Corners gig at Crown last year (reviewed on www.gigsnreviews.com) we were introduced to the banjo on the track Walkin' The Blues. On Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools this track features a real country, knee-slapping beat that you’d never expect to hear from Diesel.
I’m a sucker for steel guitar and bluesy dirty tunes and Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools has plenty so when hearing Don't Throw Your Love On Me So Strong I gasped. Diesel is a natural singing the blues and makes his guitar sing the blues as well. Tear Out The Man and It Hurts Me Too are real sad blues tracks where Diesel puts empathy into his vocals.
Diesel brought family onboard to heavily feature on Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools. His Dad on tenor and brothers Mike and Brian on baritone sax and trombone. These instruments compliment Diesel’s guitar riffs, actually being in-synch with each other. Stoopid Fool is a good example of this.
Whiskey And Weed is another cool-sounding song with a real mixture of sounds including the versatile banjo. I really like Them Changes and it’s a song with a current sound.
The only track I’m confused about as to why it’s on Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools is Sweet Emotion, an Aerosmith cover. Still scratching my head about where the blues is in this song.
Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools is a great album to put on a Saturday afternoon while you’re bopping around the house. I can’t wait to see Diesel with his band playing tracks off Saturday Suffering Fools at The Palms in October.
I give Project Blues Saturday Suffering Fools five out of five frangipanis.
