The Verve
Not everyone will be rapt with The Verve’s comeback album titled Forth, but no doubt fans of the band and fans of good-old rock will appreciate it.
Forth has ten well-crafted tracks and most are over five minutes in length. The editing was light-handed allowing some tracks to sound like one big jamming session. Some would argue that some songs lack direction and they go on for too look but it makes you drift away into some deep places to ponder your thoughts. Some of Richard Ashcoft’s lyrics encourages listeners to probe and inspect the world’s issues.
The Verve have diversified on some tracks such as the first single Love Is Noise which I believe is one of the best songs written in a while. Unfortunately the rest of the songs are very dark and slow. Unlike Coldplay’s Viva La Vida which has some colour and textures, Forth has one layer and you can press the skip button and the ten tracks blend into one.
After my first listen of Forth the jury is still debating whether I like the album or not.
