Encounter of JD from INXS

INXS at the Palias Theatre, Melbourne

March 2007

I kept my expectations low about this concert because people at the Palias had said there was no guarantee I would be able to see anything. (I’m in a wheelchair and I have been to gigs where I didn't see a damn thing!) I thought alright I'm going to enjoy the music and Mum could take photos which see did.

For 80% of the show I could see just about everything. We had good seats. I was wrapped just to see JD!

However, Tim Farris (guitarist) was under the weather and sat down throughout the concert. Let me just say his mind wasn’t at the Palias at all. It was a memorible sight I tell you.

The concert finished and it was an amazing night (I think I enjoyed it more than U2 ). We had organised to meet the taxi down a side street. We were walking down the street and I could hear something happening ahead then I heard someone say it's JD, then I heard his voice!

My stomach leapt a thousand inches while in my head I keep thinking OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH...MY....GOD!!!!

Suddenly a car drove off and JD was in it. He looked at me, smiled and pretended to be locked in the car. Haha. I smiled back, in shock!! That made my year, to get noticed by him and the fact that he wanted to get out of the car but unfortunately it was too late!

Now I can't wait until INXS' next tour. Maybe JD and my timing will collide, maybe his chariot won't whisk him away so quickly.

Matchbox Twenty

Matchbox Twenty – Exile On Mainstream Tour
With Special Guest: Thirsty Merc
Rod Laver Arena, April 10, 2008

Something happened when Thirsty Merc left the stage after doing their forty-five minute set, something rare for a support act. The crowd erupted with applause and cheers for a brilliant performance. As much as we were eager to see Matchbox Twenty, we would have been content to listen to another set from the Australian act.

From their latest album Slideshows Thirsty Merc did their songs She’s All I Got, 20 Good Reasons, The Whole World Reminds Me Of You, She’s My Brother and their upcoming release Homesick. From their self-titled debut album they performed In The Summertime and Someday, Someday. The band sounded clear and they certainly know how to please their audience. I have no doubt Thirsty Merc will become known as one of Australia’s best live acts in the not too distant future. They were just brilliant!

It was evident that Matchbox Twenty loved being in front of a Melbourne crowd and you could see how the band were enjoying themselves. Rob Thomas kept bringing up the fact that the band have had a crush on Australia for many years. After covering Don’t Dream It’s Over Rob thanked Melbourne for giving the world Crowded House.

Off Exile On Mainstream they impressed us with rocking sounds of a back catalogue with their greatest hits including Long Day, Push, 3am, Real World, Back 2 Good, Bent, If You’re Gone, Mad Season, Unwell and Bright Lights as well as their new material including the smash hit How Far We’ve Come and All Your Reasons which Rob described as a love song to the person you hate. Rob’s voice is still as powerful. His angst is his wonderful asset which brings realism to their songs. They also blended in a Beatles classic where Paul and Kyle both sang a verse each.

As a treat to their fans, Matchbox Twenty have each concert of the Exile On Mainstream Tour available to purchase for $35 from www.matchboxtwenty.com. Each concert comes on a USB wristband, so the concert can be downloaded onto a computer.

Powderfinger, Silverchair

Memories of the
Across The Great Divide Tour
Powderfinger & Silverchair

Last September the whole family rocked out to the sounds of Silverchair and Powderfinger. It was such an awesome night and I’m proud to say it was my brother's first concert.

Each band played for one and an half hours with an encore together at the end. The crowd responded to Silverchair’s classics such as Tomorrow, Ana’s Song, Without You, Luv Your Life, The Door, Freak and when they did Israel’s Song the crowd went off and suddenly I found myself having a flashback to my teenage years. Needless to say, the younger crowd knew all their newer stuff whereas the older generations appreciated their older material.

Powderfinger were just excellent. They knew how to get the crowd pumping from their first song. Powderfinger are extremely passionate about issues affecting Australians and one of these is reconciliation. Opening their set with Head Up In The Cloud which has a strong message about a past Prime minister. Other hit songs Powderfinger belted out were Waiting For The Sun, Lost And Running, Love Your Way, I Don’t Remember, These Days, My Happiness, Bless My Soul, (Baby) I’ve Got You On My Mind and the very memorable Black Tears.

For the final encore the two acts joined together to performed The Who’s Substitute. The Melbourne crowd knew that they were seeing something rare!

In 2008 Powderfinger are going back on the road again. The below tour dates are from Really Long Link
