When Eddie announced that he would be bringing his solo tour Downunder Mum and I couldn’t contain ourselves. If you’re a regular reader of Gigs ‘n Reviews, you’d already know how much we love Live; and of course Eddie is the lead singer of Live.
We had never been to the Forum so its cozy, unique medieval characteristics and atmosphere was a nice experience for us. When Eddie came onstage we knew it would be a great night.
Eddie began the night with Get Ready from Live’s last studio album Songs from Black Mountain. He was dressed in jeans with a jacket, nothing flash. He was there just to play music. After a few songs he joked with the audience saying he had saved us money not having to buy earplugs. For those who haven’t been lucky enough to see a Live concert, one word LOUD!
He played most of the Live athems like Selling The Drama, I Alone, Nobody Knows (last night he revealed this was written in Canberra), The Dolphin’s Cry, Pain Lies On The Riverside, Overcome, They Stood up for Love, Heaven, All Over You, Lightning Crashes, Dance With You and The Beauty Of Gray. Ed announced he will be going to Texas next month to record his first solo album (yay!). Last night he played one of his new songs called Zygon. Personally I am always taken by Eddie’s capability to write songs that have passion and an underlying message of love for all humans, and Zion is no different.
Eddie was comfortable in front of the Forum crowd. He explained how Aussies are much nicer about the “uncomfortable acoustic silence” when he tunes his guitars. During They Stood Up For Love he screwed up the lyrics, but the crowd only laughed which made Eddie laugh too.
He dedicated the last song Blowing In The Wind to the great Bob Dylan as the legend was arrested last week but the young policewoman didn’t know who he was. He said as a young boy he had always loved the song and was wrapped when he learnt to play it.
Being at a Live/ Eddie Kowalczyk gig you always feel like you’re in this cocoon of love. You feel inspired by Eddie’s ideology of love and peace in the world.
Here’s the songlist from last night:
Get Ready
Selling The Drama
The Distance
Nobody Knows
I Alone
Face and Ghost (The Children's Song)
Turn My Head
The Dolphin’s Cry
Pain Lies On The Riverside
Overcome
They Stood Up For Love
