A Party with Nickelback

It was amazing to be a part of such a vibrant and voicous crowd last night at Nickelback’s first Melbourne show. As Chad later said, “it should feel like a party, not a performance.” And what a party it was!
Even before the Canadian rockers came onstage, looking around you could see that everybody was there to have a rockin time. As a warm-up over the speakers played the likes of Van Halen and my all-time favourite rock tune Lakini’s Juice by Live which everyone gave a big cheer to.
The stage was massive as you’d expect for the band that has packed out stadiums worldwide. Even though last night was obviously indoors, they still used pyrotechnics and stage effects. At one stage the drummer with his drumkit were lifted and brought forward. The other bandmembers used the stage’s walk-out quite frequently.
Chad was overly chatting throughout the night; talking to the crowd after every song. He later appologised to parents because they would have to explain to their kids about some of the mature content he said.
Nickelback have a tradition called ‘beer o’clock’ where cups of beer are thrown out to the crowd. For the Dark Horse Tour they throw cups of beer and Jagermeister shotties from cannons. Also tour t-shirts were caught by some lucky fans.
Chad announced he was “having amazing time” last night and even shared a joke or two!
The show ended with a big bang, actually quite a few big bangs with indoor fireworks and big flames at each side of the stage.
Here is the setlist:
