Will Melbourne’s Party Reputation Disappear?
June 4th 2008 04:45
Due to the increasing number of assaults in Melbourne’s CBD and inner-city suburbs, the Victorian Government are trialling a refusal of entrants into pubs and clubs after 2am.
Some venues have been exempt from the trial, including those on Kings Street.
The reasoning for the trial is to decrease violence and hospital admissions. The hope is to reduce these incidents as alcohol will be less obtainable at popular venues after 2am.
Many patrons argue the Victorian Government never consulted them before the trial began on Tuesday, June 3rd.
It would be disappointing to see if the three-month trial has any damaging impact on Melbourne’s nightlife, including artists and bands. It would be a shame to see Melbourne’s party reputation disappear.
