What Is Newsworthy These Days?
March 25th 2010 01:49
This morning on Sunrise (an Aussie morning show) they showed a photo of George Michael and a friend enjoying each other’s company.
Really? Is this newsworthy? There would be many rock stars, pop stars, movie stars and sport stars donating their time and money to charities but we seem to thrive on stories about sex and drugs.
Aren’t we all tired of hearing about Tiger and his entourage of mistresses? Aren’t we tired of hearing about George Michael’s personal life as the media are keen to knock him down again?
I’m a self-confessed fan of J.D Fortune, the once leader of INXS. The media were very quick to report on his battle with drugs and homelessness, but not many reported on the fact that he has performed at various charity nights since January 2009. This is not newsworthy! Why not?
Keith Urban is always appearing and donating to charities. However, not many people know this because the media are too busy speculating on his and Nicole’s marriage.
Sometimes I get so sick of how the media portrays the lives of the famous. They’re real people who have a right of privacy. Sure, George and his friend were out in public, but does this deserve the media attention?
