The mind-popping Barry Manilow
My Mum and I luckily have very similar tastes in music from Bon Jovi to Savage Garden, from Audioslave to George Micheal. She also likes to wack on David Franj’s God Only Knows occasionally (for two reasons: she’s a fan and because she knows Franj is one of my favourite artists so she likes to rub it in that she likes his songs too!)
Unfortunately in recent years her obsession with Barry Manilow has intensified thanks to the magic of a huge home projector screen with a surround sound system my Mum watches his DVD’s frequently. This is OK because I choose to lock myself away in my room until her night with Barry finishes.
I wasn’t as fortunate on Christmas Afternoon when Mum put on Human Nature’s latest album. (I’m not a fan of either motown or Human Nature, so combine the two and you get one very irritated person. Something in my head serious goes pop and I feel like I have to hit something!) Then when the darkness fell Mum, Nan and my Aunty watched a Neil Diamond Live In Australia DVD. At that point I decided to take myself into my room and watch the third disc of my Supernatural Season Three.
