Eminem versus The Pussycat Dolls
July 12th 2008 07:52
Just after 8:30am I turned on the TV. My Saturday ritual is to switch on Video Hits and sometimes flick to Rage.
There has been a lot of debate about today’s music videos from specific genres portraying women as sex objects and teaching girls to dress inappropriately at a young age.
This morning around 8:40am when very young girls would be watching the TV in their pyjamas, Video Hits played the latest (I’m guessing) video from the all-girl band The Pussycat Dolls. I switched over to Rage because seeing women’s boobs almost pop out of their clothes just doesn’t do anything for me, then I saw Eminem’s Lose Yourself video.
I remembered all the hysteria surrounding around Eminem and his lyrics to his songs. I’m a poet and believe sometimes strong coarse language is part of art. Sure Eminem really despises his mother and calls her some choice words, and sure young children shouldn’t listen to his lyrics, but The Pussycat Dolls seem to get away with their raunchy videos in G classified television spots.
Where is the logic in that?
