Apell
Myspace
Anthony Pell aka Apell is a one man band from Melbourne. From reading and listening to his Myspace he revels in the fact that the music he makes is different. Before bringing out his debut self-titled solo album in 2000, Apell played in various bands on bass, guitars and keyboards.
On his Myspace Apell has six very unique tracks you can listen to. The first three tracks are instrumental and each twist and turn taking you to unexpected places. The track titled Summer begins with a surfy feel but then in the middle has an Arabic sound to it.
Digirap takes you to an electronic sound but with rocky elements. The distorted sound adds to the song’s character. Training Hard is another instrumental track which is rich in bass.
Apell lets us hear his soulful vocals in So You Know. This track has a real funky rhythm with bass and I thought I heard some kind of sax, but I could be wrong. Respect for the Jaded though is the track that I had a little trouble understanding, I appreciate how Apell allows his mind to wonder.
So Where Did You Hide sounds like something you would hear from Oceans 11. With female vocals Apell shows his diversity and individuality with not only this track but with all his music.
You can check out Apell on iTunes. Just head to his Myspace for more information.
