Tainted Toys
Myspace
A family friend said to check a Sydney band called Tainted Toys out on Myspace. I was hesitant as his taste in music is a little warped.
However I was quite surprised when I listened to the four tracks Tainted Toys have on their Myspace. They are certainly a heavy metal band but their songs have messages in them.
I had a chance to ask the boys from the band Kimball, Josh, Jack, Luke and Shifty the following questions:
1. How did the band start?
The band started a few years ago when a couple of us were sitting around in a park playing some tunes and we thought that we should have a go at getting a band
Together just for a bit of fun. The next week we had our first practice.
2. How did you all meet?
Well Josh and I (Kimball) are brothers. I met Luke through one of the original guitarists who brought him along to our first band practice ‘cas we needed a drummer, Shifty was brought along by our old bass player when we were looking for a new guitarist and Jack (our new bass player) and I have been mates for a while so when we were looking for a new bass player he went and bought a bass.
3. What major label are you signed with?
None yet.
4. Your songs have some pretty deep lyrics in them. Are they from your own life experiences?
Yep{pause} Josh and I write all the lyrics and all the songs are from our own personal experiences
5. Are you ever going to tour different areas of Australia?
We would love to and we hope we can sometime in the near future. We are currently trying to find a manager and a booking agent to help us out with this.
6. What do you think of the state of music today, in particularly heavy metal?
I think there are a lot of awesome bands out there. The Sydney music scene seems to be always rockin and there are plenty of heavy bands on offer any night of the week. There also seems to be great metal music coming from all over Australia at the moment so yeah I’d say the state of music in this country is pretty good.
7. You use social networks to promote Tainted Toys. Has this opened doors to gaining radio play?
Not yet..
8. What do you hope for Tainted Toys for the future?
A record label, manager, booking agent, tours, albums, you name it we want it but I guess the ultimate goal is just to make a living from it. To be making enough money from playing music so that that's all we have to do
9. Your influences are very broad. Do you try to incorporate them all in your music?
I don't think we really think about our influences when were writing they just seem to pop up in our songs. So one part of a song may sound a bit like Sevendust or another song may remind people of Metallica, it's not something that we intentionally set out to do but as with a lot of music our influences defiantly shine through in a few of our songs
10. From your YouTube videos you have quite a following. Do you have a favourite gig that sticks in your memory?
We certainly have a very loyal fan base and that seems to be growing all the time. I have a few favorites every time we play at club blink it tends to be an awesome night. Also the Gaelic club was an amazing gig for us the sound there is always great and we had a massive turn out. We play our first gig with jack next week so I think that is shaping up to be a big one. I'd say that everyone has their own personal favourite though.
Thank you heaps Tainted Toys. Good luck with your future!!!
