An intimate night with Jon Stevens
June 11th 2008 02:04
The New Capers, Melbourne
June 9, 2008.
This was the seventh gig Jon Stevens had played at The New Capers and I can understand why he loves this extremely intimate venue in Hawthorn.
Jon said to the packed room that it was nice to do separate gigs from the Let’s Get Together tour which he’s currently doing with Ian Moss, Jack Jones and Tania Doko (previously reviewed on www.gigsnreviews.com).
Announcing to the audience Jon said, “(I) love this room” and repeatedly shook hands with people as they walked pass the stage. At one moment Jon forgot a verse to one of his popular songs so he bent down to let a man take over singing.
Jon with his two guitarists played several Noiseworks hits such as Touch, Hot Chilli Woman and the extremely emotional R.I.P Millie. The audience appreciated Jon’s raw emotion when singing R.I.P Millie, which is about his mother who passed away.
My family and I were fortunate enough to meet Jon after the show thanks to the lovely owner of The New Capers. We also met the delightful Cecilia Hayes (singer and wife of Colin Hayes, Men At Work). You can visit Cecilia’s Myspace page at Cecilia Hayes
