Diesel @ The New Capers
June 29, 2008
Diesel walked out in a very smart Dolce Gabana suit with black shoes. He looked like he was playing for a crowd full of royals, but the The New Capers’ crowd sure appreciated the effort in his appearance.
Before Diesel came onstage each table were asked to pick songs from an A4 sheet. This included all of his greatest hits such as One More Time, Saviour, All Come Together, Never Miss Your Water, Don’t Need Love, Fifteen Feet Of Snow, Tip Of My Tongue, Come To Me, Since I Fell For You and Cry In Shame. Before playing each song he dedicated it to whomever requested it.
He also played a few tracks from an upcoming album due out in August. One is called Days Like These. With an electric guitar he covered Bert Bacharach’s Walk On By.
It is always a feast for the eyes and ears watching and hearing Diesel using his guitars as other instruments; bass and drums. Also he has a uncanny knack for totally re-arranging his well-known hits into something unrecognizable. One particular song that got this treatment was Come To Me, which was slowed right down.
For me the stand-out tracks of the night for me were Sun Is Shining and Spoonful off his collaboration with Chris Wilson called Short Cool Ones. Diesel uses a chrome guitar and there are no words to describe how good these sounded in such an intimate venue.
My family and I was very fortunate have a chat with Diesel after the show. He is always down-to-earth and really sweet. It will be a night that I will remember for a long while.
